From the desk of LMNT's Founders:

When institutions and leaders which purport to provide for the Health of the Individual FAIL in these promises, it becomes necessary for The Individual to regain their sovereignty by taking health into their own hands. A declaration which feels nothing short of a rebellion.

Nature has imbued within each of Us the spark of creation and the capacity to lead a varied, challenging, and meaningful life. To meet these challenges of life — and to realize its rewards — requires a dynamic and adaptive state of Health.

Now, what is Health? Is it merely the “absence of disease?” — No. That is the study of pathology.

We suggest that Health is mutli-layered, from the cellular to the systemic, process which may be characterized by:

Spatial compartmentalization (Integrity)

Integrity of Barriers

Containment of Perturbations

Maintenance of homeostasis (Sovereignty)

Recycling and Turnover

Integration of Circuitries

Rhythmic Oscillations

Response to stress (Resilience)

Repair and Regeneration

Hormetic Regulation

Homeostatic Resilience

All disease processes are ultimately a result of breakdown in one or more of the above.

Although complex in description, Health is largely driven by an outgrowth of lifestyle choices which are within our individual ability to take action on:

Minimally processed, whole foods, tailored to the individual

Good, restful sleep

Community

Movement

Safe, reasonable sun exposure

Appropriate hydration

Challenge which leads to adaptation and growth

The final point of challenge need not be separate from the other factors, but is critical in providing for the less tangible, yet non-negotiable feature of Health: Meaning.

Depending on one's view, the claim that your health is in your hands could be seen as empowering perspective (in a kick in the britches) or a bit daunting: No one is coming to save you.

While these decisions are in YOUR hands, you are not remotely alone in discovering your owned path to health.

Although much of the modern world presents challenges — from a standard diet misaligned to our natural biology to doom-scrolling and persistent negativity online — there is also someone, somewhere that is absolutely over the moon ecstatic to help. Someone that will run through a brick wall to support you in going through something similar they did.

This is how we feel at LMNT.

And we’ve been there. Sleepless nights struggling to find something, anything else that might help. A child now on year two of gut distress that is taking them away from school and their friends. A bad diagnosis for your aging parent. And each of us, trying, ardently, solutions that Just. Aren’t. Working. Why does it all seem so confusing? Why is it so hard to find the right solutions? Aren’t there supposed to be professionals out there that really get it?

At LMNT, we have focused on helping folks navigate seemingly small, but surprisingly impactful pieces of the puzzle: hydration, sodium and even caffeine. Is hydration just water? Is sodium always bad? Is more caffeine (or none) always better? What might be misunderstood in the collective knowledge around the pursuit of health and where are folks falling off track?

We sell a simple electrolyte product — and we also give that recipe away for free. We hope that the brand identity in LMNT, in the ethos of being “salty,” also reminds people to stand up for their health. To dig a little deeper where things might be misunderstood.

Salt has been our drumbeat for the last 8 years, and with this declaration, we are introducing our next functional ingredient in the rebellion for your health: tea. A tea that provides a full spectrum of polyphenols and antioxidants with a modest amount of naturally occurring caffeine. It might not be as daring as dumping barrels in the Boston Harbor, but we think standing up for your health is its own act of heroism.

It’s quite clear that most of us are over-stimulated, trying to keep our energy levels, adrenals, hormones in harmony. Salt is misunderstood. Energy production is misunderstood. We’re in an overstimulated time. Do we understand the causes?

In the course of your Human Events (Life) we are here to help you navigate these and many other questions pertaining to health and not standing as an ultimate authority, but as a partner who is on a parallel journey. Your sovereignty is the foundation of our mission which is why we will always support and encourage you to take health into your own hands.

Stay Salty,

LMNT Founders
